Do they understand you?

Prince's query to Scots comic

Scottish comic Fred MacAuley met Prince Philip today and the Duke immediately asked if audiences could understand him.

The veteran stand-up came face-to-face with the Prince at a ceremony to honour winners of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

And on being told of MacAuley's job, the Duke asked the youngsters: "Have you seen him before? Can you understand him?"

MacAuley said: "He asked if any of them knew who I was, which was funny because I had just asked them the same question. The difference was that he asked them to make conversation, but I was more interested for my career."

The comic, who had been presenting awards to Northern Irish youngsters at the event in Edinburgh, added: "It might sound a bit naff, but they are all really great kids and I'm delighted to be involved."
