Brand goads rowdy audience

Comic pelted with glass

Sky One presenter Russell Brand has been pelted with glasses after attempting a return to stand-up.

Brand, goaded the notoriously raucous audience at the Edinburgh Fringe's Late 'n' Live show, inviting them to throw solid objects at him.

It followed a deliberately provocative set in which the MTV host also faked drawing his own blood for the braying crowds.

Brand has not performed any stand-up since last year's festival, and admitted he had not written any gags for the event.

The late-night show at the Gilded Balloon also saw Sean Hughes, Johnny Vegas and Daniel Kitson form an ad hoc band.

The trio, who called themselves The Three Stages of Perrier, belted out unmusical versions of Sandy and Summer Nights from Grease.

Hughes is a former Perrier winner, Vegas an ex-nominee, and Kitson is on this year's shortlist.
