He is surely one of the reasons the first series of LOL: Last One Laughing was such a success.

Now reigning champion Bob Mortimer is set to return for the second season to defend his crown.

Trade website Broadcast reports his return to the Amazon Prime Video show, as it reveals that series two has already finished filming.

Last week, Amy Gledhill was named as one of the new batch of comedians taking part in the show,  in which comedians try to make each other laugh without cracking up themselves.

Mortimer won his series in a showdown with Richard Ayoade, having seen off fellow competitors Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson and Harriet Kemsley.

Jimmy Carr will be returning to host the show, which attracted up to 6.1million viewers an episode in the first series – making it the second most streamed Prime Video show after Clarkson's Farm.

The UK show was just one of many national adaptations of the original Japanese series Documental, created by Hitoshi Matsumoto, with local versions across the world, including an Irish version hosted by Graham Norton and an Australian version hosted by Rebel Wilson.
