Alison Spittle wins Comedians’ Choice Award
With Roger O'Sullivan as best newcomer
Alison Spittle won the best show accolade in The Comedians’ Choice Awards last night.
Her show Big was selected by other comics performing at the Edinburgh Fringe as the best of the festival
She said: ‘I’m so taken aback, I want to thank all the comedians who voted for me! I want to thank my friends, especially Fern Brady and my partner Simon Mulholland who techs my shows and gives me notes every day, and all my friends, my beautiful agents, Hannah and Lois, Show and Tell and Monkey Barrel.
‘I love being a comedian so much and it’s been a great month and I’m so happy, I really appreciate it!
The best newcomer prize was awarded to Roger O'Sullivan for his debut hour Fekken.
He said: ‘Comedians know about comedy and they’re the ones who have been getting people to my show. The fact that they think it’s this good means the world to me. I’m really bowled over!’
The award for best person (intended to recognise anyone working in any capacity at the festival) was awarded to Kyle Legacy who is performing in four shows a day.
He was on stage at the time of the award ceremony so Barry Ferns surprised him with his award during the show.
The other shows shortlisted for the best show award were: Devin Gray: May Divorce Be With You; Garry Starr: Classic Penguins; Lorna Rose Treen: 24 Hour Diner People; Luke McQueen: Comedian's Comedian; Nate Kitch: Something Different!!!!!; Ozzy Algar: Speed Queen; Roger O'Sullivan: Fekken; Rosa Garland: Primal Bog and Trygve Wakenshaw and Barnie Duncan: Different Party
