Adam Buxton

Adam Buxton

Date of birth: 07-06-1969
Adam Buxton is best known as half of the Adam & Joe double act, whose cult Channel 4 series, supposedly shot in their bedsit, ran from 1996 to 2001.

He met Joe Cornish at London’s Westminster School and developed a friendship based around making short comedy videos, some of which they submitted to Channel 4’s Takeover TV in 1994.

They were subsequently invited to host the programme before being given their own show, which was most famous for its recreation of Hollywood scenes using soft toys.

They won the Royal Television Society Best Newcomers Award in 1998, hosted several specials for Channel 4 and BBC Three and fronted a Saturday lunchtime show on London radio station XFM.

Adam’s s biggest solo achievement has been co-writing and starring in the E4/Channel 4 mini-series The Last Chancers, about a fledgling rock band in Brighton.

He also took his character show I, Pavel – about a temperamental avant-garde artist - to Edinburgh in 2005.

Adam Buxton writes a second Ramble Book

Covering the 1990s and his partnership with Joe Cornish

Adam Buxton is to release a second Ramble Book, covering his comic partnership with  Joe Cornish.

The sequel to his 2020 volume will cover 1990s nostalgia, including his ‘burgeoning career as a late night cult icon on Channel 4 alongside his childhood friend Joe Cornish’.

It will be released on August 29, and publisher described as  ‘funny, tender, and cut through with Adam’s hysterical asides’.

In a statement to trade website The Bookseller,  the comedian and podcaster said: ‘What was it like to help define the DIY TV genre with Joe Cornish in the 1990s years before YouTube? Why did cult success make me such a pain in the arse to work with? Which Britpop star forced me to take drugs and become a 1990s cliche? Who was the greatest comedian l ever passed out on?

‘Who should I blame for my Mum’s sudden death during the 2020 lockdown? The Tories, or myself? What was funny about the spiral of grief, and anxiety that followed? Should I throw out my parents’ photos? Should I read their diaries? What should I do with my Mum’s tights? What’s it like to be in a family with a professional navel gazer? What are the latest entries in my Argument With Wife Log? How’s Rosie doing?

‘These and other important questions of our age will be answered in gorgeously printed physical form and lovingly recorded audiobook form in Ramble Book 2.’

The first book covered 1980s nostalgia, with its audio version making the top of the Audible charts.

Ramble Book 2 is not yet available to order.
