Derek Smalls: Balls
Second solo single from Spinal Tap bassist
Spinal Tap’s Derek Smalls has released the second song in his new solo career, Balls.
The bass-playing alter-ego of comic Harry Shearer quit the band in the wake of last year’s movie Spinal Tap II:The End Continues, which the character described as a ‘another hatchet job that makes us look like a bunch of fuckwits.
And of his new anthem, he says: ‘Hard rock music was always based on balls. I’ve just made it official.’
The track contains the lyrics:
It takes balls to make a pizza when you don’t know how to cook
It takes balls to be a teller when they know that you’re a crook
It takes balls to call it a redwood when you know that it’s a spruce
It takes balls to stay raw when they try to cook your goose
When you need a proper pissoir but all you find is stalls
It takes guts, it takes grit,
It takes balls.
Released by Twanky Records, Balls follows the release of RVM (Rear View Mirror) at the end of last year.
