Paddy Courtney vs Des Bishop
Note: This review is from 2000
Billed as some sort of comedic face-off, this is simply a show of two halves.
First comes amusing, if unexceptional, Dublin stand-up Paddy Courtney with a routine that effortlessly blends into every other set you have ever seen.
He's likeable and makes you laugh, but the gags are instantly forgettable.
Second is the more interesting prospect of a hip-hop comic.
But what should have been a fascinating fusion of comedy rhythms and language onto an urban soundtrack turns out to be a failure on both counts.
Eminem has much wittier lyrics, and he doesn't claim to be a comic.
Really, all Bishop is doing is using music to detract from his substandard routine which he might have got away with had the rapping not been very pedestrian, too.
Scratch this off your 'too see' list.
