Spaceboy

Review by Steve Bennett

A disappointing follow-up to award-winning fringe hit Play Wisty For Me, this show just isn't as funny as it thinks it is.

The story of an alien who becomes part of a comedy double-act is packed full of clever ideas, but simply fails to get enough jokes in.

With its non-linear structure and endless references to theoretical physics, it's as if creators Perret and Limb are showing off rather than being funny. They've finally managed to read A Brief History Of Time, and now they're going to prove just how intelligent they are.

A couple of amusing skits aside, they get too wrapped up in the process of telling a story rather than getting on and telling it.

The show also feels shoddy around the edges. The pair are all too willing to ad lib in a fruitless quest for a punchline, which gives a distinctly amateurish tone to the whole proceedings.

Sorry, but this one needs a fair bit more work, lads.
