Simon Pegg: I have ADHD

Shaun Of The Dead star reveals diagnosis

comedySimon Pegg has revealed he has been diagnosed with ADHD.

The Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz star said the news ‘confirmed a lot of stuff that I'd been Wrestling with’

Speaking on the I'm ADHD! No You're Not podcast, the 56-year-old said he pursued a diagnosis as he ‘just wanted to know’, having previously put his symptoms down ‘character fault.

The Spaced co-creator said he ‘wasn't a naughty child’, adding: ‘I just assumed ADHD kids were kind of chaotic and difficult and didn't pay attention in school.

‘But there were other things that I did do as a kid – fidget or whatever – that made me think, "Oh no, maybe I've had this longer than I thought".’

Pegg also spoke about having clinical depression throughout his adult life and problems with alcohol, and wondered if the issues were linked.

‘Maybe over the years with therapy and medication - whatever - I've been treating the symptoms and not the cause of why I feel that way,’ he told the podcast.

Other comedians who have been diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood include Johnny Vegas, Sue Perkins and Rory Bremner.
