Some clues...

This Country fans are trying to figure out which secret A-list star played Kurtan Mucklowe's nan after she made a cameo appearance in last night’s show.

The character has remained unseen until now, reduced to a disembodied voice – but in last night’s episode, she came out of the house to berate producers making the mockumentary.

‘I think it's appalling!’ she rages at the camera, in an echo of what one Cotswolds villager told the real crew during filming.

 ‘What you lot done to this village, you should be ashamed of yourselves! Turning this place into a bloody circus, clogging up the road with your vans, filming unsociable hours!’

But her face was blurred out, with Kerry (Daisy May Cooper) subsequently adding: ‘You know you can’t use that, don’t you? Because she doesn’t want to be in the documentary.’

The BBC says the woman playing the part is a big star, and she  was listed in the end credits as ‘Elvira Presley’.

Guesses have included Tilda Swinton, Julie Walters, Emma Thompson and Maxine Peake.

This Country director Tom George added to the mystery by giving a few clues that would rule out all those names.

He tweeted: ‘Loving the guesses so far but haven’t seen the right name yet. So a few clues: They’re not from England; they flew in especially to do it; we had NEVER met them before the day; They have a very creative partner.’
