Phantom Raspberry Blower lets rip across the UK
New tour based on Two Ronnies serial
Spike Milligan and Ronnie Barker’s story of The Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town has been turned into a stage play that will tour the UK.
The show, about a Jack the Ripper-style madman stalking the streets of Victorian London making fart noises, was originally conceived as a TV special for the Goons, but was never recorded as Peter Sellers’ Hollywood career had taken off.
Instead, it aired as an episode of Six Dates With Barker in 1971, then turned into an eight-part serial, which appeared on The Two Ronnies 1976 TV series. Here’s a clip
Now it has been revived by nostalgia specialists Hambledon Productions to mark the 50th anniversary of that broadcast for a UK tour this autumn.
The company is also behind Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show, whose star John Hewer is also one of the Phantom Raspberry Blower’s cast alongside Daniel Grooms, Callum Hale and Della Maylan.
The tour starts in Lincoln on September 2 and runs to the end of November. Phantom Raspberry Blower tour dates
A different version ran at St James’s Theatre in London in 2015, with various secret celebrity guests paying the Phantom.
Barker's hand-written scripts for the serial sold for £3,700 in 2008.
