The contest is open to all comedians – not just new acts – and boast the biggest prize in comedy, £10,001.

A total of 24 heats will take place across the UK in September and October, followed by semi-finals and the final on November 29 at the London Comedy Store.

Jeff Innocent, who won the contest in 2021, said: ‘The British Comedian of the Year is a great competition and I feel privileged to have taken part. It is very well organised and attracts some of the best comedians from all over the country. It was a very exciting and memorable experience. I consider it one of the highlights of my comedy career.’

Dan Tiernan took the title last year
