Olivia Colman seeks comedy scripts

Her production company launches new writing competition

Olivia Colman’s production company is launching a  comedy script competition for writer-performers.

Her firm, South Of The River, will work with at least one winner to develop their idea into a TV porgramme.

The competition, called Screenshot, is primarily aimed at people with a theatrical background and hopes to find the next Fleabag.

Indeed, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is one of the judges alongside comedians Lolly Adefope and Rosie Jones, and comedy executives from the BBC, Kate Daughton, Channel 4, Fiona McDermott, and Sky, Tilusha Ghelani.

Entrants must submit a five-minute clip of them performing an extract from their work.

Longlisted candidates will then pitch their projects to the panel, and while winners will go into paid development, shortlisted candidates will also receive a contribution towards their next live show.

Organisers say the competition was set up in response to the industry being shut down by Covid and add: ‘This is an initiative for emerging voices, and therefore we are only considering applicants who have not already had an original project produced for television, film or streaming service. ‘
