London club offers backing to female comics

London’s 99 Clubs are awarding two £500 bursaries to help new female comics take their debut shows to the Edinburgh Fringe.

The chain of six venues – which claims to be the biggest employer of stand-up comedians in the capital – said it was launching the scheme as ‘it’s important to take concrete steps to support female performers’.

It is inviting applicants to fill in this form. Shortlisted comics will appear in a showcase in the West End on July 24, where two will be chosen to receive the award.

The deadline for entries in June 30.
