Fred Armisen, Penn Jillette and Patton Oswalt in audio comedy

A new podcast sitcom made specifically for an autistic audience has launched with a line-up of well-known guest voices attached.

It's A Superpower??  features guest appearances from Fred Armisen, Penn Jillette, Alasdair Beckett-King, Mark Watson, and Patton Oswalt – who appears briefly voicing a talking rodent, but not Ratatouille.

The audio comedy – believed to be the first audio sitcom by and for autistic people –  follows a group of neurodivergent people who meet at a support group, accidentally acquire magic powers, and are then tasked with saving the world from a neurotypical supervillain.

The show is written by Sara Gibbs, co-editor of the autism comedy website The Daily Tism, and executive produced by Andrew Hickey, known for the podcast A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs.

Gibbs said of the starry cast: ‘We can’t believe it either. To be honest, they might have thought it was an autism charity ad. We just gazed off into the middle distance looking sad until they agreed to be in whatever this was. Fingers crossed they don’t listen to the finished product.’

‘We’re hoping they’ll draw attention to the fact that we’ve made the first ever sitcom specifically for an autistic audience. No, The Big Bang Theory absolutely doesn’t count.’

The regular cast includes Sarah Amero, also a co-editor of The Daily Tism, along with John Butler, Guy Kelly, Stuart Laws, Georgia Mackenzie, Lizzie Schenk and Abigail Weinstock. Gabby Hutchinson-Crouch and Grace Jarvis also make appearances.

New episodes of It's a Superpower?? will be released weekly on platforms including Spotify and Apple Podcasts. The full series is now available to subscribers on Patreon without adverts.
