Third series for Smoggie sitcom
The BBC has ordered a third series of Smoggie Queens.
Creator Phil Dunning is to make six new half-hour episodes of the comedy, based around a tight-knit group of LGBTQ+ friends in Middlesbrough.
He said he was ‘so buzzing to be recommissioned’, adding: ‘Going to have a cheeky Bloody Mam to celebrate.’
The core cast of Mark Benton (Mam), Alexandra Mardell (Lucinda), Patsy Lowe (Sal) and Elijah Young (Stewart) are all set to return, with additional actors to be announced later.
Gregor Sharp, commissioning editor for the BBC, says: ‘The fact that Smoggie Queens is returning for a third series is testament to the brilliance of Phil Dunning and the entire creative team behind it.
‘The show has carved out a unique place in British comedy with its unforgettable characters, razor-sharp humour and huge heart. The show continues to celebrate the people and spirit of Teesside with warmth, wit and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see what chaos the Smoggie Queens get themselves into next.’
Dunning also launched a digital spin-off series, The Dickie Show, to coincide with series two airing on BBC Three and iPlayer in May. The talk show featured guests including James Acaster, Russell T Davies and Steph McGovern.
