Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly revived the character that made his name

Sacha Baron Cohen has reportedly shot a new Ali G film.

The comedian is said to have secretly filmed the project around the UK and US in recent months.

The Insneider newsletter run by Hollywood journalist Jeff Sneider says that the project, first mooted during the 2023 writers’ strike, is now all wrapped.

‘I’m hearing that such a project has now been completed,’ Sneider wrote. ‘It’s unclear whether the new Ali G movie is being shopped to buyers right now or if it already has a home, but it’s my understanding that it’s in the can.

‘Cohen was reportedly spotted in character in and around Oxfordshire, England, in July and September of 2025, though I believe Ali G also spends a good deal of time in the circus that is America in this mysterious new project, which remains untitled and has no release date as of now.’

Cohen’s representatives have declined to comment to US media.

His character started life on Channel 4’s 11 O’Clock Show and transferred to the big screen in 2002 with Ali G Indahouse.

Cohen went on to have bigger hits with  2006's Borat and its 2020 sequel Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, but still sometimes appears as his breakthrough alter-ego – most recently on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2024.

The 54-year-old star last year shocked fans by unveiling a muscular torso to play Mephisto in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
