As an ex-SAS man coaxed out of retirement

Ray Winstone is to star in a new action comedy series for Amazon’s Prime Video platform.

In Danger Money, the screen hardman plays a former SAS operative now plagued by ‘soaring blood pressure’.

But his character, Alan 'Razor' Sharp, is coaxed out of retirement for ‘a  job too good to refuse’, which takes him to Italy to uncover a ‘violent conspiracy involving hidden war spoils, corrupt institutions and powerful enemies determined to keep the past buried’.

The six-part series is created by David Crow and Oliver Maltman, who previously wrote the Lee Mack sitcom Semi-Detached together.

The 69-year-old Winstone - recently seen in Guy Richie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen, above – said: ‘They told me the character was a bit of a scrapper, surly and getting on a bit. I told them it doesn't ring any bells, but I like a challenge.

‘In all seriousness, it's everything that I love because beneath the action, laughs and the hardman antics, there's a lot of heart, soul and depth to this script as any great characters and shows have.’

And the writers added: ‘We’re thrilled to be bringing Danger Money to Amazon audiences, with screen icon Ray Winstone as the unforgettable Razor Sharp - a new breed of hero, whose Special Forces training and thirst for justice is somewhat hampered by his soaring blood pressure and sciatic spasms.’

Fleabag producers Two Brothers Pictures will start shooting the series later this year.
