Psychiatric report ordered into Peter Kay bomb hoax suspect
Omar Majed tried to remove clothes during hearing
The case against the man charged with making a bomb hoax at a Peter Kay gig has been adjourned for a psychiatric report to be drawn up.
During a hearing by video-link from prison yesterday, Omar Majed tried to take off his prison-issue grey tracksuit bottoms, causing Judge Andrew Smith KC to cut the case-management session short.
He is currently being held at HMP Brinsford near Wolverhampton where he is awaiting trail on charges of communicating false information to police contrary to the Criminal Law Act.
It follows an incident on May 1 when Kay’s show at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham had to be evacuated to allow police to carry out searches amid reports of a bomb threat. Up to 13,000 people were affected.
West Midlands Police carried out searches after a report of a suspicious bag being left in the area, but nothing was found.
A further case management hearing is due to take place on July 27 with the trial, expected to last two weeks, scheduled for November 3.
The cancelled Peter Kay gig has been rescheduled to July 25.
