Second series for Jack Whitehall's US comedy The 'Burbs

Comedy-thriller will be back on Sky

Jack Whitehall’s US comedy The ’Burbs has been renewed for a second season.

The series, inspired by the 1989 Tom Hanks horror-comedy movie of the same name, debuted on Peacock in February and is shown on Sky in the UK.

Whitehall and Keke Palmer play a couple who move into a suburban neighbourhood harbouring darker secrets than it first appears.

‘We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of The ’Burbs and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast,’ said Lisa Katz, president of scripted content for  Peacock.

‘A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers and crew who updated the beloved original film and made something funny, warm and highly contemporary.’

Sky has confirmed it will air series 2, too.

The series was created by Celeste Hughey, who also wrote and produced it alongside fellow writer and executive producer Rachel Shukert and director Nzingha Stewart. Other producers include Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane.

Critical opinion on the first season was broadly positive, if not without reservations. The Hollywood Reporter described it as a 'lumpy, though not unpleasant, mélange of uneven tones' that improved significantly around its fifth episode

The first series of The  'Burbs is available to watch on Sky and Now.
