Richard Herring joins indie comedy Zak The Ripper

Cast also includes comics Sy Thomas and Tiff Stevenson

Richard Herring has joined the cast of Zak The Ripper, a British indie comedy film gearing up for production this September.

He joins an ensemble that also includes-up comics Sy Thomas and Tiff Stevenson and actor Jamie Kenna.

Zak The Ripper centres on Zak Harris, an unassuming man who finds himself at the centre of a spiralling media storm after inadvertently becoming the prime suspect in a series of high-profile murders.

Herring said: ‘I am very much looking forward to joining what looks like an excellent cast in a properly funny British movie.

'There are so many brilliant independent filmmakers in the UK who deserve more attention than they are getting. Whilst Hollywood movies are homogenising, true creativity is coming from those with (much) smaller budgets, but much bigger imaginations.'

The project is written and directed by Warren Dudley, screenwriter of football memoir The Bromley Boys, who produces with his long-time collaborator and director of photography Matt Cotton.

Dudley said: ‘Comedy has always been my biggest passion, and after the success of The Bromley Boys, the chance to write and direct my own comedy movie feels incredibly exciting - and a real privilege. Having Richard join the cast is very exciting as he’s a hero of mine from the golden years of 1990s British comedy.’

A teaser scene has been released featuring  Zak on a disastrous Tinder date:
