Ed Weeks to star in vampire comedy series
...but Rhys Darby's period sitcom is shelved
Ed Weeks is to star in a new American vampire comedy series.
The British actor will star opposite Upload’s Allegra Edwards in the single-camera show Eternally Yours, which has just been picked up for a full season by the CBS network.
It revolves around around married vampire couple living in present-day Seattle who have been together for 500 years – and are now struggling to accept their daughter's human boyfriend.
Joe Port and Joe Wiseman – showrunners on the US version of Ghosts – have created the comedy, which also stars Helen J Shen, Jaren Lewison and Parker Young.
Weeks is known to US audiences for playing Dr Jeremy Reed on The Mindy Project. A former president of the Cambridge Footlights he wrote on the BBC sketch show Man Stroke Woman and appeared in My Family, The IT Crowd and Not Going Out before moving to the States.
However, it is less good news for Rhys Darby as CBS have decided not to go ahead with his period comedy, Regency.
In the pilot, the Kiwi comedian played a 19th Century English aristocrat – heir to a vast cheese empire – who would go great lengths to prove his masculinity, although his privileged upbringing revealed itself every time.
