Council approves plans
Plans to erect a statue of comedian Roy Hudd outside a Suffolk theatre have been approved.
Now the council has given the go-ahead, supporters of the plan have three years to begin installation.
Local sculptor Sean Hedges-Quinn has come up with a design that depicts the long-running host of BBC Radio 2's The News Huddliness sitting on a bench next to the Theatre Royal in Bury St Edmunds.
Hudd lived near Stowmarket in Suffolk, and regularly performed at the theatre. He died in 2020 aged 83 and his widow, Debbie, is behind the statue plan. She and private donations have raised £100,000 for the project.
It is hoped it could be installed as early as May to mark what would have been Hudd's 90th birthday.
