New programme idea now being piloted

Dara Ó Briain is piloting a new comedy show seeking the nation’s dullest people.

The comic will be joined by guests including John Robins at a run-through of the programme – simply called Britain's Dullest – in London later this month.

The poet appears to be at an early stage, with the try-out show being taped at a community arts centre in Bethnal Green.

Producers tease: "Do you go insane for the mundane? Were you born to be mild? If you find satisfaction in the simple, this is the show for you.’

The show seems to embrace the ethos of the Dull Men’s Club, an international and largely online group celebrating those who seek an uneventful life. When The Times visited a recent meeting they encountered a man who runs a Facebook account dedicated to unusual bins, a man obsessed with ornamental folly towers and the organiser of the World Conker Championships.

Ó Briain is currently hosting a revival of Mock The Week on its new channel, TLC, which has been newly commissioned for a second series.
