Comedian shares CCTV footage in hope of stopping more thefts

Cally Beaton has shared CCTV  footage of thieves stealing her bag from beneath her table as she caught up with a friend in a London restaurant yesterday.

One crook kicked the bag away without her knowing, before another zipped it into his backpack in what the comedian said was ‘their signature robbing move’.

Beaton shared the footage – which clearly captured the faces of the criminals - in the hope they can be identified.

The 56-year-old wrote on Instagram: ‘Maybe it will be shared widely enough they don’t get to do it to anyone else.’ Scroll to the second frame of the post to see the video footage in full:

One of her followers said the thieves’ technique was ‘a very well known trick’ in London.

The comedian did not reveal where the incident took place but the Metropolitan Police later said they received a report of a theft  at a restaurant on Thayer Street, Marylebone .

A spokesperson said: ‘Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting 01/8370099/25.'

Beaton also praised 'the enormously helpful staff where it happened'.
