Fackham Hall does decent box office
Downton Abbey spoof takes £400k at UK box office
Downton Abbey spoof Fackham Hall made a solid start at the UK box office.
It was the only new release of the weekend to make it into the top five, according to industry website Screen Daily with a strong start of £407,166.
It came in behind Disney’s Zootropolis 2 with £2.8million in its third week of release and Wicked: For Good with £1.9million in its fourth weekend
In the USA, Fackham Hall opened the previous week with $625,000 (£465,000) across 1,112 cinemas – an average of £415 per venue.
And the second week it took just $91,413 (£68,000) in 335 venues – or £203 on average.
The parody – likened to Airplane! – was devised by Jimmy Carr with his brother, Patrick, who both wrote it with The Dawson Brothers (Steve and Andrew with non-sibling Tim Inman).
It has a star-studded cast – including Damian Lewis, Katherine Waterston, Thomasin McKenzie and Anna Maxwell Martin, plus Carr himself who plays a vicar – and has received decidedly mixed reviews.
