Hugh Laurie cast in archaeological comedy series

Starring opposite Amy Poehler

Hugh Laurie has been cast opposite Amy Poehler in a new comedy set in an archaeological dig in Greece.

The series, for US platform Peacock, is called Dgi and  reunites  Poehler with Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur. They co-wrote the pilot script, with J. Philbin from Only Murders In The Building also writing on the series.

Deadline reports that Laurie has been cast as Neville, a British professor ‘who sincerely loves archaeology and strives to uphold the traditions of this dying profession. He fancies himself an inspiring mentor to everyone who works at the site’.

The series is based on Kate Myers’ bestselling book Excavation about four women working on a team that makes a discovery ‘with the potential to rewrite history’ – which sparks a ‘high-stakes international conspiracy’.

The series is being made by Universal Television.
