Sky confirms Ted series 2

Seth MacFarlane comedy returning in March

Sky is to air the second season of Ted, the prequel to the films about a talking bear.

The series will land on Sky and streaming service Now in March, two years after the first episodes aired, the broadcaster has announced

Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane is co-showrunner on the series, and voices the title character.

The series is set in Framingham, Massachusetts, in the 1990s, after Ted’s moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back at home  with his best friend, 17-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham).

In a statement MacFarlane and fellow showrunners and writers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh said: ‘We hope you enjoy these eight somewhat filthy, hopefully funny, heartfelt episodes about a young man, his talking teddy bear, and their highly dysfunctional family.

‘On the off-chance the series is not your cup of tea, a great way to get us back is to leave all the episodes playing to completion on multiple devices throughout the house. That’ll show us.’

Last year. it was reported that the second season was nearly cancelled due to high production costs of around $8 million per episode.

Series one  got mixed reviews with Anita Singh of the Daily Telegraph awarded the series one star, writing ‘MacFarlane's sweary Paddington has one joke… and it isn't big, it isn't clever and it's certainly not funny.’  However Chris Vognar of Rolling Stone described the show as ‘silly’ and ‘juvenile’ but full of laughs nonetheless.

Ted series two launches on Peacock in the US from March 5, then in the UK soon after.

• Sky has also announced that comic and Taskmaster star Ania Magliano's debut stand-up show I Can’t Believe You’ve Done This, as recorded at the Royal Court Theatre in London, will air on Sky Comedy and Now from December 23.
