Ghost series from Daisy May and Charlie Cooper

This Country couple to visit UK's haunted sites

This Country creators Daisy May and Charlie Cooper are to front a new series about paranormal activity.

The siblings will be locked in together in some of the most haunted places in the UK for the new BBC Two series, called Nightwatch.

Daisy May has been frank about her belief in ghosts, writing a whole book – Hexy B*tch – based on spooky stories from her life She believes her house is haunted by the spirit of a dead highwayman and a pair of disembodied legs, which was the subject of a special edition of Radio 4’s ghost-story series Uncanny.

And Charlie previously made the BBC series Myth Country, investigating local legends and folklore including  Black Shuck, a ghostly dog said to roam East Anglia.

In a statement, the Coopers said: ‘We’ve both had a brush with the paranormal, and really do love the concept of life after death, so we thought this could be the perfect way to prove to the world that we’re not delusional. It will be a miracle if we both come out alive and well.’

The first location they will visit is the closed down HMP Gloucester,  close to their home town and reputed to be one of the most haunted jails in the country.

Future episodes will see them in an old pub frequented by highwaymen in Cannock Chase, bat infested ruins in Herefordshire,  and a cinema in York.

Each half-hour episode begins with a tour of the supposedly haunted sites before they spend the night there, with a countdown clock marking the hours from midnight until dawn.

Catherine Catton, the BBC’s head of factual entertainment and events, said: ‘We are really looking forward to spending the night with Daisy May and Charlie Cooper in some of the UK’s spookiest places.’

Executive producer Lisa Clark added: ‘Working with Daisy May and Charlie in some of the spookiest buildings in the UK was terrifying – but also a lot of fun.’

The show is being made by the Coopers’ production company, So Humble.
