Taskmaster returns for its 20th series
The best of the week's comedy on TV, radio and on demand
Our pick of the comedy on TV, radio and streaming this week…:
Monday September 8
PETER SELLERS AT SEA: On what would have been the 100th birthday of the great comedy actor, writer Bob Sinfield tells the story of the troubled making of the film Ghost In The Noonday Sun. The production of the pirate comedy was dogged by Sellers' erratic behaviour, attributed to the end of his relationship with Liza Minnelli. Among many odd incidents he pretended to be sick – taking time off to go to hospital, only to be photographed dining with Princess Margaret. Spike Milligan was drafted in halfway through to try to rescue the scripts but it was not enough and the film was not theatrically released. Radio 4 Extra, 9.30pm
Tuesday September 9
ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING: Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez are back on the case for season 5 of the acclaimed comedic murder mystery. Three episodes drop on Disney+ today with seven more to come, and guest stars over the series include Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Christoph Waltz and Téa Leoni and returning favourites like Meryl Streep and Jane Lynch. ROOM 101: Paul Merton asks Jack Dee what he would like to banish to Room 101.Radio 4, 6.30pm
JORDAN JENSEN: TAKE ME WITH YOU: In her debut Netflix special, Jordan Jensen delivers her takes on failing at femininity, the paradox that is 'self love' and the horrors of trying to find it.
Wednesday September 10
RIA LINA GETS FORENSIC: In this new series, the stand-up and qualified forensic scientist is joined by guests to investigate anti-ageing treatments. Cariad Lloyd explores hyperbaric oxygen therapy and its claims to clear brain fog; Geoff Norcott looks into microneedling; Ninia Benjamin takes on red light therapy; Lou Sanders tries Korean glass skin facials; and Baroness Ayesha Hazarika examines electrical muscle stimulation.
