'Dr Cox' joins Scrubs reboot

John C. McGinley signs up to reprise role

John C. McGinley has joined the Scrubs reboot, reprising his role as the sarcastic Dr Perry Cox.

He joins the original cast members Zach Braff as JD, Donald Faison as Turk, Sarah Chalke as Elliot and Judy Reyes as Carla for the new series being made for American’s  ABC network.

Its official logline reads: ‘JD and Turk scrub in together for the first time in a long time – medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.’

The new series will be overseen by creator Bill Lawrence with Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra – both of whom were writers on the original series – as show runners.

News of McGinley’s involvement was reported by Hollywood trade press last night.

Scrubs originally aired from October 2001 to March 2010, reaching a US audience of more than 22million viewers at its peak. The original episodes are streaming on ITVX and Disney+.
