John C. Reilly to perform in London
As his alter-ego Mister Romantic at the Soho Theatre Walthamstow
Oscar-nominated actor John C. Reilly is bringing his vaudeville act to London.
The Hollywood star will be performing the UK debut of his show Mister Romantic at the Soho Theatre Walthamstow on November 18.
In it, he performs songs from the American songbook backed by a band, and interacts with the audience in sometimes funny, sometimes sad ways.
He has already performed the show in America, where the New York Times called it ‘wryly funny, sometimes tender and sad, but always sincere', and Vanity Fair described it as ‘fiercely funny’.
The news comes on the day that Reilly released a Mister Romantic album entitled What’s Not To Love? in the US.
He appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to talk about the project – inspired by his appearance in the Chicago movie – and his decades-long process of finding the right love songs to perform:
And here he is as Mister Romantic singing What’ll I Do? – best known to UK comedy fans as the theme tune to Birds Of A Feather.
Reilly is know for his roles in Step Brothers, Walk Hard and the films of Paul Thomas Anderson as well as his role as Amos ‘Mr Cellophane’ Hart in Chicago, which won him his Academy Award nomination.
