Peter Kay writes another memoir
New title out in October
Peter Kay is to release his fifth book, formatted as a series of monthly ‘memories and meanderings’.
Titled Peter Kay’s Diary: The Monthly Memoir of a Boy from Bolton, it will be published by HarperCollins on October 9 as a hardback, ebook and audio version narrated by the comedian himself.
With a cover that parodies Bridget Jones’s Diary, the title does not cover a particular year in the stand-up’s life, but rather themes his memories around the calendar.
Kay said: ‘Think of this autobiography as a 12-month subscription to my memories and meanderings across the calendar year. With each month reflecting a different phase of my life, complete with dodgy decisions, bizarre plot twists and more than a few laugh-out-loud moments.’
The publishers call it Kay’s ‘most heartfelt and hilarious autobiography yet’, explaininging: ‘Take a whistlestop journey through his life, in a year. From hitting the gym in January, falling in love in February and a nostalgic trip to Ireland at Easter, to buying his first house in May. Then it's summer holidays at Butlins, a September wedding and, before you know it, he's packing away the Halloween decorations and sipping a glass of Bailey's in front of the Christmas telly.
‘With his trademark warmth and wit, Peter offers a unique take on the calendar year, cementing his place as one of Britain's best-loved comedians and a true national treasure.’
Kay’s first book, 2007’s The Sound Of Laughter, is the biggest-selling hardback autobiography of all time, with sales of more than a million across all formats.
He followed it up with Saturday Night Peter in 2009 and TV: Big Adventures On The Small Screen in September 2023. Plus he published the tour tie-in The Book That's More Than Just a Book - Book in 2011.
Kay’s current record-breaking tour runs until May. Peter Kay tour dates.
