Adam and Joe on air together again after 16 years
Virgin Radio reunion to mark Buxton's new book
Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish are reuniting this weekend for a one-off show on Virgin Radio.
The special marks the release of Buxton’s new book I Love You, Byeee which charts the highs and lows of their double-act.
It is their first time on air together in nearly 14 years, although Cornish has been a guest on Buxton’s hit podcast.
They began working on comedy material together during their time at Westminster School together, and went on to have their own show on Channel 4 from 1996 to 2001 – and from 2003 to 2006 they hosted a programme on XFM, taking over Ricky Gervais’s former slot, before moving on to BBC Radio 6 Music.
Buxton said: ‘It’s very nice to be here. We’re not used to being on the radio. We used to be on the radio back in the day.’
Cornish added: ‘Yeah yeah we’re a little bit rusty and cranky – in fact, that’s our new double act name, Rusty and Cranky…’
I Love You, Byeee was published last month and in its blurb Buxton wrote: ‘You’ll hear about my crazy times hanging out with notorious rock’ n’ roll hellraisers like Travis and Radiohead. I write with humour and heartbreaking poignancy about the challenges of parenting, losing my mother (to death, that is – we didn’t get separated in a shop) and the drug hell that led to me nearly dying in the arms of a comedy legend.
‘There’s also a bit about arguing with my wife, getting instructions on edginess from Louis Theroux, going on Bake Off and much more that you didn’t ask for but definitely need.’
Adam and Joe will be on Virgin Radio from 10am to 1pm on Sunday.
Love You, Byeee, a follow-up to Buxton’s Ramble Book, is published by Mudlark, priced £22. It is available from Amazon at £18.73 – or from uk.bookshop.org, below, which supports independent bookstores.
