First look at Rosie Jones sitcom Pushers
Comic plays a drug dealer in her first comedy acting role
Channel 4 has released the first images from Pushers. starring comedian Rosie Jones in her first sitcom.
Based on the Comedy Blap pilot Disability Benefits, the show stars Jones as Emily, who sets up an illegal drugs empire after her state benefits are cut after she is made redundant.
The broadcaster says ‘Emily isn’t your average street-dealing dope peddler – she’s sharp, funny, biting, highly educated – and on top of all that, she has cerebral palsy.
‘People have underestimated Emily her entire life. If they’re not patronising her for completing the most menial of tasks, they’re pretending she’s not there. What better disguise could there be for criminal activity than to be entirely written off by the same broken system which exists to protect the law?’
Also joining the cast of Pushers are Ryan McParland, Jon Furlong, Lynn Hunter, Rhiannon Clements, Ruben Reuter, Libby Mai , Trevor Dwyer-Lynch and Clive Russell.
The six-part series is being co-produced by Merman Television and 2LE Media.
Meanwhile, the BBC has released the first images for the second series of Such Brave Girls created, written by Kat Sadler who co-stars with Lizzie Davidson as her sister – and Louise Brealey – who plays her mother. No release date has yet been announced for the show.
