Apple TV+ comedy returning for a fifth series

Apple TV+ has renewed its British comedy series Trying for a fifth season.

Esther Smith and Rafe Spall will return as the couple who adopted two siblings, Princess and Tyler, after unsuccessfully trying to conceive naturally.

The new episodes will deal with the consequences of their biological mother Kat – – played by Ghosts Charlotte Riley – turning up at their doorstep, and what the streamer calls ‘the whirlwind of chaos she brings into their settled family life’.

The last series ended with a cliffhanger as to whether Scott, played by Darren Boyd,  had died.

A press release announcing the  new series announced Boyd as being in the ensemble cast without going into specifics.

Trying was created by Andy Wolton, who writes it and acts as an executive producer for programme-makers BBC Studios.

It first launched in 2020, with the last session – which aired between May and July last year – achieving 100 per cent positive reviews, according to the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes.
