Malcolm In The Middle to return
Malcolm In The Middle is to be revived to make its 25th anniversary.
Four new episodes of the US sitcom will be made with original cast members Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek.
Nineteen years after the family sitcom last aired, Muniz’s character Malcolm now has a daughter of his own.
The new episodes, to air on Disney+, will revolve around the 40th wedding anniversary celebrations of Malcom’s parents, Hal and Lois (Cranston and Kaczmarek)
Muniz had largely moved away from acting to become a racer driver, but he has often expressed a desire to get the Malcolm In The Middle team back together.
The show – a pioneer of the single-camera comedy that overtook traditional studio sitcoms – originally aired on Fox in the US from 2000 to 2006, with 151 episodes made. Sky first carried the series in the UK, but it has also aired on BBC Two, Channel 5’s Fiver, Comedy Central and 4Extra, where it can currently be seen.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said: ‘Malcolm in the Middle is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humour, heart and relatability.
‘Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.
‘With [creator] Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.
