We Might Regret This renewed for two more series
Darren Boyd and Kyla Harris to return in 'trailblazing' BBC comedy
The BBC has ordered two more series of We Might Regret This.
The comedy stars Kyla Harris as Freya, a 30-something disabled Canadian artist who has relocated to London for Darren Boyd’s Abe, a strait-laced lawyer. Freya requires round-the-clock care from a dedicated personal assistant, meaning a third person is present for every romantic moment and domestic dispute.
Harris created the series with her long-term friend Lee Getty, and the pair said in a statement: ‘Season one was just the tip of the comedy iceberg and we’re beyond grateful to the BBC for their continued support and commitment to exploring disability, messy relationships and unparalleled intimacy on screen.’
The Guardian hailed series one – which aired on BBC Two in August – as ‘a trailblazing portrayal of a disabled woman on screen’ but added: It isn’t really about disability or care-giving. It’s about relationships – messy, complicated, co-dependent’, while Vogue called it ‘the BBC’s smartest, sharpest sitcom since Fleabag.’
The show also starred Sally Phillips as Abe’s estranged wife, Jane, Edward Blumel as their adult son Levi and Elena Saurel as the personal assistant, Jo.
We Might Regret This is made by Roughcut TV, whose chief executive Ash Atalla called it a ‘show both full of heart and close to our hearts’, adding: ‘So happy we get to make more of this series – both complex and silly, surely the best place to be.’
Jon Petrie, the BBC’s director of comedy ,added: ‘We’re proud to commission more episodes of We Might Regret This. Kyla, Lee, and the team have tapped into something truly unique—crafting comedy from deeply personal moments with such sharpness and heart.
‘There’s still so much laughter to uncover in Freya’s world, and we can’t wait to see how they push the boundaries of comedy and character even further.’
