When will the last series of Inside No9 air?
Broadcast date revealed – and synopsis of episode one
The 9th and final series of Inside No 9 is to air from May 8, the BBC has revealed.
Episode one of the run is entitled Boo To A Goose and features guest stars Siobhan Finneran, Mark Bonnard Susan Wokoma, Joel Fry, Philippa Dunne, Charlie Cooper and Matthew Kelly.
The description of the show reads: ‘Late-night passengers get stuck in a tunnel when their train breaks down. Patiently, they wait for the replacement service until a nurse gets her purse stolen and tempers start to fray.’
A previously released image from the episode shows Steve Pemberton in drag on an underground platform with Reece Shearsmith in a tweed suit and tie. Their characters are called Wilma and Gerry.
When filming ended in February, Pemberton tweeted: ‘Time to say goodbye to #InsideNo9 having just wrapped series 9. This takes us to 55 episodes, a very decent innings. Mixed emotions but can't wait to share what we've made.’
Shearsmith added: ‘The end. That's it for Inside No 9 series 9. What a journey the last ten years have been. But today we arrived at the final stop. So long. Farewell. And thanks for all your kind support and love for the show over the years. We'll miss it.’
Their comments seem to be more definitively final than when they first announced the show would be going on a hiatus after nine series.
In December 2022, Pemberton wrote: ‘We feel it is a good time to pause Inside No. 9 after we finish filming series nine next year.
But he added then: ‘We’re not saying it's over for good. After all, The League Of Gentlemen came back, but we won't be looking to make any more episodes for the time being.’
Other guests across the final six-episode series include Dorothy Atkinson, Katherine Kelly, Eddie Marsan, Vinette Robinson, Hayley Squires and Adrian Scarborough, who previously worked with Pemberton and Shearsmith on Psychoville, playing twisted children’s entertainer Mr Jolly.
• Inside No 9: Boo To A Goose is on BBC Two and iPlayer at 10pm on Wednesday May 8.
