Adelaide Fringe awards for Elf Lyons and Foxdog Studios

Best comedy and innovation accolade

British acts Elf Lyons and Foxdog Studios have scooped awards at the Adelaide Fringe, as the festival came to an end yesterday.

Lyons’s show Raven shared the best comedy accolade with another clown show, Motorboat, performed by Melbourne-based American comic Melissa McGlensey.

Raven takes the form of a horror story as Lyons recalls the monsters that stalked the halls of her boarding school in her nightmares (Read our review from the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe here). She will next be taking the show to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, which kicks off next week.

Meanwhile, Foxdog Studios won the John Chataway Innovation Award, named after a former deputy director of Adelaide Fringe, for their show, RoboBingo.

The double act of Lloyd Henning and Peter Sutton – IT consultants by day – have created a bingo game for audience members to play on their phones, but full of bizarre elements such as a frog invasion. Read our review from Edinburgh last year here.

A number of weekly comedy awards are also announced over the course of the festival, with Ed Byrne also previously among them.

Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
