Baftas for Chris McCausland, Joe Lycett and Alma’s Not Normal

Plus Danny Dyer and Ruth Jones for comedy acting

Chris McCausland, Joe Lycett and Alma’s Not Normal were among the winners at tonight’s Bafta Awards.

Collecting her award for best scripted comedy for Alma’s Not Normal, a very excited Sophie Willan said: ‘I’m not allowed to swear and all I want to do is bleep bleep bloody bleep.’

And while she tried to use euphemisms like ‘flupping’ and ‘bloomin’, some of her acceptance speech was muted:

Ruth Jones won best female performance in a comedy for Gavin and Stacey, adopting the voice of Nessa to say: ‘I’m not going to lie, this is immense’.

She also thanked co-writer James Corden in her speech saying ‘without him Nessa would simply not exist;. ‘I’m not going to lie, this is immense’.

And Danny Dyer won best male performance in a comedy for Mr Bigstuff, joking that his ‘acting was so bad it was funny’.

For the second consecutive year, Joe Lycett was awarded the Bafta for entertainment performance for  Late Night Lycett.

Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell’s turn on Strictly Come Dancing was voted the P&O Cruises memorable moment  in the only accolade voted by viewers.

McCausland is out on tour, Buswell passed on his message: ‘After 22 years in comedy I win a Bafta for dancing. I'll take it but please let them know it hurts.’

Would I Lie to You? won best entertainment Programme. Team captain Lee Mack got a laugh by joking that maybe they only won the award as host Rob Brydon once made adverts for event sponsor P&O.

And Quiet Life, a BBC comedy short written by comic Luke Rollason and Alex Bruce – was named best short form programme.

Here’s Tom Allen chatting to Greg Davies and Alex Horne on the red carpet before the ceremony – in which Taskmaster left empty-handed…
