Michael McIntyre cancels gig because of kidney stones

Comic undergoing surgery

Michael McIntyre has cancelled a gig because he is undergoing an operation to remove kidney stones.

The comic was due play the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton tomorrow as part of his Macnificent tour.

However his agents Off The Kerb have told fans he has had to pull the show.

Writing on X, they said: ‘We regret to inform customers that Michael McIntyre will be unable to perform on Monday 4 March at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Unfortunately, Michael has had an operation to remove kidney stones.

‘The show will be rescheduled to a later date which will be announced shortly. Tickets will remain valid for the new date. If you are unable to make the new date you will be entitled to a refund. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.’

Kidney stones affect more  than 1 in 10 people. They can be extremely painful, and can lead to kidney infections or the kidney not working properly if left untreated.

The NHS says: ‘Most kidney stones are small enough to be passed in your pee, and it may be possible to treat the symptoms at home with medication. Larger stones may need to be broken up or removed with surgery.’

That can be ultrasound to break them up or an instrument inserted in the urethra or via a small incision in the back, under general anaesthetic.
