Miriam Margolyes plays the Edinburgh Fringe

Actress returns to the festival to 'offend and delight' at 82

Miriam Margolyes is returning to the Edinburgh Fringe for the first time in 12 years.

The 82-year-old actress is performing Margolyes & Dickens: The Best Bits at the EICC  for nine days, starting on August 7.

Her love of the Victorian novelist is well known, and the last time she was at the Fringe, it was with the one-woman show Dickens' Women – which she has been performing since 1989.

After bringing to life the most colourful characters from Dickens’  novels, Margolyes will open the floor to audiences questions – with no subject off the table. The show is billed as ‘guaranteed to offend and delight.’

She  said: ‘The Fringe makes you brave.  I am overjoyed to be back!  An old cunt having a go. Fun friction, Mr Dickens and me…and you!’

Her appearance comes on the back of two bestselling memoirs - This Much is True and Oh Miriam.

Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow.

Her dates form part of a wider release of shows at Pleasance venues, including Rosie Jones, Catherine Cohen, Jazz Emu, Two Hearts, Kemah Bob, Chloe Petts, Colin Hoult, Tarot, and Showstopper! The Improvised Musical
