
Sky orders Chris O'Dowd's Small Town, Big Story
Comedy about a Hollywood film being shot in Ireland
Sky has ordered a comedy-drama from Chris O’Dowd about a Hollywood film being shot in smalltown Ireland.
The IT Crowd star created and directed Small Town, Big Story – which has just started shooting.
The six-part series is set in the fictional town of Drumbán, a 'rural village of rattled misfits' and revolves around what happens when a Hollywood production rolls into town and ‘throws the spotlight on a secret that’s been kept hidden since the eve of the Millennium’.
Christina Hendricks stars as Wendy Patterson, a local girl done good as a hot-shot television producer, who returns to her hometown from LA. Paddy Considine plays Drumbán’s local doctor and pillar of the community Seamus Proctor, and Eileen Walsh is his wife Catherine.
David Rawle – who starred alongside O’Dowd in Moone Boy – plays their son Sony, with Leia Murphy as daughter Joanne. The cast also includes Patrick Martins, Evanne Kilgallon, Andrew Bennett , Ruth McCabe and David Wilmot.
Small Town, Big Story is expected. launch on Sky and streaming service Now next year.
The broadcaster points out that as the show is an Equity production, filmed in the UK & Ireland, it is compliant with the actors’ strike currently paralysing Hollywood
