Staged series 3 coming to BBC One

New episodes were previously only available to BritBox subscribers

The third series of David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s hit show Staged is to air on BBC One.

The six new episodes were originally released in November on streaming service BritBox and will be coming to terrestrial TV and iPlayer ‘soon’, the BBC says.

Originally conceived in lockdown, the comedy also stars the leads’ wives, Georgia Tennant and Anna Lundberg, all as fictional versions of themselves.

The new episodes are 22 minutes each, longer than the 15 minutes of the first two seasons – but broadcast dates have not yet been revealed.

In the new run, director Simon Evans – who also plays himself and writes the series – tries to get Tennant and Sheen to work on a post-lockdown project with him, after a major fallout.

Staged was named best comedy at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards in 2021.
