Student Comedy Award 2023: Meet the final finalists

We're down to the last ten!

The remaining finalists for this year’s Chortle Student Comedy Award have been chosen.

Getting through the second semi-final at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre last night were:

  • Daniel Petrie, 24, a fifth-year medical student at University Of Glasgow
  • Emmerson Young, 23, a first-year masters student at Liverpool John Moores University, studying computer science and information systems
  • Katie Carrig, a 21-year-old first-year law and politics student at Trinity College Dublin, originally from New Jersey.
  • Michael McKenzie, 24 and studying medicine at the University of Nottingham
  • Riki Msindo, 24, another medicine student, he's in his fifth year at Bristol University

They all go through to the final at Up The Creek in Greenwich on July 12, hosted by Mark WatsonTickets

The show will be broadcast on Radio 4 Extra the following night, and will also be livestreamed on NextUp.

Our finalists will also be appearing at the Latitude Festival in Henham Park, Suffolk, over the weekend of July 21-23, appearing on the same comedy stage as Ed Gamble, Bridget Christie, Sara Pascoe, Romesh Ranganathan and scores of others.

Last night’s five finalists join the winners of the first semi-final, which was held last month:

First batch of finalists

  • Alex Knipe, 20, a second year music undergraduate at Durham University
  • Hannah Yarwood, 20, a third year drama and theatre student at the University of Kent
  • Ivo Pope, 22, a third year English undergraduate, also  at Durham
  • Josh Adkins, 22, a third year theology and religion undergraduate at Exeter University.
  • Muhsin Yesilada, 26, who is studying for a psychology PhD at the University of Bristol

Last night’s other semi-finalists were: Kent Cameron, Zak Thompson , Scott Fishenden,  Casey Patmore, Ben Pollard, Dean T Beirne, and Evie Ro.
