Kunts' Scrap The Monarchy song heads for the top 20

Swear-free song released under the band name The Krown Jewelz.

The Kunts anti-Royal anthem is on course to enter the top 20 on Friday.

According to midweek sales, Scrap The Monarchy, is currently at No 17, just below Post Malone’s Chemical.

The comedy punk band have even changed their name in a bid to get BBC airplay, releasing the song under the name The Krown Jewelz. And in a first for the Essex four-piece, the song contains absolutely no obscenities.

The band have scored three consecutive Christmas top 10 singles with their foul-mouthed government protest songs – Boris Johnson is a Fucking Cunt, Boris Johnson Is Still A Fucking Cunt, and Fuck The Tories –  and had the best-selling single of Jubilee week with their song Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce.

Such success was achieved with  grassroots campaigns as the tracks were too offensive for broadcast on mainstream media. But this time they have turned over a new leaf to try to get more exposure for their anti-royal message.

The band describe Scrap The Monarchy as ‘a sing-a-long for the millions of people who don't want to suffer the BBC's simpering Coronation coverage, for which, like the Coronation, we are ultimately footing the bill’.

Individual members of the band have also changed their pseudonyms to be more respectable. Lead singer Kunt is now  K-Royale, guitarist Carsehole has become Windsor Castle, bassist Rubber Johnny is now Regal Jonny and drummer Fucksticks has changed his name to Flagsticks

They say: ‘Scrap The Monarchy contains no expletives, so unless having an opposing point of view is now outlawed there is no reason it can't be covered in the mainstream press, played on the radio and announced on the BBC Radio 1 chart rundown, which is no doubt set to cause some more awkward conversations at the state broadcaster.’

The band are urging fans to download the single before the end of Thursday – and in as many of the 30 remixes as possible –  to have the best chance of achieving a chart position. Click here for more details.
