Kunt cleans up his act (a bit) for anti-royal anthem

Punk outfit change their name in a bid for BBC airplay

Comedy punk band The Kunts are releasing a Coronation protest song tomorrow – and have even changed their name in a bid to get BBC airplay.

Their rousing track, Scrap The Monarchy, is being released under the name The Krown Jewelz… and in a first for the Essex four-piece contains absolutely no obscenities.

The band have scored three consecutive Christmas top 10 singles with their foul-mouthed government protest songs – Boris Johnson is a Fucking Cunt, Boris Johnson Is Still A Fucking Cunt, and Fuck The Tories –  and had the best-selling single of Jubilee week with their song Prince Andrew Is A Sweaty Nonce.

Such success was achieved with a grassroots campaign as the tracks were too offensive for broadcast on mainstream media. But this time they have turned over a new leaf to try to get more exposure for their anti-royal message.

The band describe Scrap The Monarchy as ‘a sing-a-long for the millions of people who don't want to suffer the BBC's simpering Coronation coverage, for which, like the Coronation, we are ultimately footing the bill’.

Individual members of the band have also changed their pseudonyms to be more respectable. Lead singer Kunt is now  K-Royale, guitarist Carsehole has become Windsor Castle, bassist Rubber Johnny  is now Regal Jonny and drummer Fucksticks has changed his name to Flagsticks

They say: ‘Scrap The Monarchy contains no expletives, so unless having an opposing point of view is now outlawed there is no reason it can't be covered in the mainstream press, played on the radio and announced on the BBC Radio 1 chart rundown, which is no doubt set to cause some more awkward conversations at the state broadcaster.

Lyrics include ‘While folks rely on foodbanks, and we're supposed to rejoice / As a crown is chauffeured round in a custom made Rolls Royce’ and a line that Radio 1 might find troublesome: ‘Scrap the monarchy, Scrap the monarchy / They turn a blind eye to their paedos like the BBC.’Here is the video, which features the Krown Jewelz running in the London Marathon, doing a dance routine in front of The Tower Of London dressed as Beefeaters, and being pursued by someone wearing a King Charles mask with sausages for fingers.  The monarch has been accused of hiding his hands to avoid being mocked for his 'sausage fingers' in portraits released ahead of Saturday’s Coronation.

As always, the band are urging fans to download the single in the first week of release – and in as many of the 30 remixes as possible –  to have the best chance of achieving a chart position. Click here for more details.
