Shooting wraps on Netflix adaptation

Nava Mau has joined the Netflix adaptation of Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer.

The Mexican-born trans actress previously appeared in HBO Max’s short-lived ensemble comedy-drama Generation, produced by  Lena Dunham and others.

Filming has now wrapped on the eight-part series, which began as a stage show at the2019 Edinburgh Fringe before transferring to the Bush Theatre, London, where it won an Olivier Award.

The show revolves around the comedian’s real-life experiences of being the victim of stalking. Gadd will play Donny, the character based on himself, and Mau will play Teri his partner.

As previously announced,  Jessica Gunning –  best know as community service supervisor Diane Pemberley in Stephen Merchant’s The Outlaws – will play stalker  Teri.

Netflix’s official blurb for the series, which is being made by BBC Studios-owned Clerkenwell Films,  says: ‘Baby Reindeer follows the writer and performer Richard Gadd's warped relationship with his female stalker and the impact it has on him as he is ultimately forced to face a deep, dark buried trauma.’

The film tells the real story of a Syrian brown bear who was bought by Polish troops during the Second World War and officially registered as soldier so he could receive rations, and who spent his later life in Edinburgh Zoo.

Gadd started his career as a finalist in the 2011 Chortle Student Comedy Award.
