BBC Studios strike deals with Nick Mohammed and Diane Morgan

Comedy stars to develop more shows

Nick Mohammed and Diane Morgan are set to make more comedies with the BBC after striking a deal with the Corporation’s commercial wing.

Both will develop and co-produce scripted programmes with BBC Studios under the agreements revealed today.

Philomena Cunk star Morgan last week won a National Comedy Award for her supporting role in Ricky Gervais’s comedy-drama After Life and writes and stars in Mandy, which was also made by BBC Studios.

She said: ‘Last week I won a comedy award and someone on the internet made a pancake with my face on it. I thought it couldn’t get any better – but it just has. Thanks BBC Studios."

Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed – who is about to go on tour as his Mr Swallow alter-ego – previously created the Sky comedy Intelligence, in which he stars alongside David Schwimmer.

He said: ‘Genuinely so flattered to be partnering with BBC Studios and to be given the opportunity to work with some of the UK’s most exciting production companie

‘And just in general feeling very grateful to them for having such faith in my writing. I can’t wait to get started.’

BBC Studios previously struck a similar development deal with Stath Lets Flats creator Jamie Demetriou. Details of the first project from that partnership are expected later this year, according to the BBC.
